Explore the diverse flora and fauna on the Downs from season to season through personal observations and photographs

Second scorcher in a row. I even aborted my walk at 09:30 as it was a good 4-5 degrees hotter than yesterday at the same time.

Not too much insect activity either. Most of the plants are looking distinctly frazzled, even the hogweed. Did manage a nice photo of a Flower Crab Spider (Misumena vatia) on some brambles.

Also got a good view of a Song Thrush (Turdus philomelos) that hopped out onto one of the woodland paths ahead of me. This is a bird that is increasingly heard rather than seen.

The Wild Carrot (Daucus carota) is picking an unfortunate time to start blooming. Later in the summer this is one of the favourites with many insects. Let’s hope we get some rain soon.
