Very few butterflies on the wing. A few Gatekeeper and Speckled Wood, a single Large White and some distant unidentified blues.

The Common Sycamore Aphid that have been keeping tight formation in aestivation on the underside of sycamore leaves for the past few months have vanished. They will have dispersed and migrated to other sycamore trees to start producing nymphs. This site provides information on the life cycle of these aphids

Spindle Ermine moth caterpillars festooned the spindle trees in their silk cocoons in early May and stripped some of the trees completely of leaves before pupating. I can now add to the insect list the adult Spindle Ermine (Yponomeuta cagnagella) moths, which are starting to emerge from their pupal cases.

Another insect, which can be found on a wide variety of plants and today photographed on yet another different plant, this time on a Silver Birch leaf, was an adult Dock Bug (Coreus marginatus). To date I have recorded it only once on the plant after which it is named.

Having already noted in my posts other plants infected with powdery mildew today I came across yet more white powdery mildew, this time on Common Comfrey (Symphytum officinale), possibly Golovinomyces cynoglossi.
