Garden Chafer (Phyllopertha horticola) beetles are out in large numbers and I have my first sighting this spring of Southern Hawker (Aeshna cyanea) dragonfly. I have not seen this dragonfly too often over the past decade but there are two spots in particular where they are most likely to be seen. It looks like this could well be a good summer for insects in general as I am seeing many more of a good number of species than I have for many years. Spiders too seem much more numerous this year with the Cucumber Green Spider (Araniella cucurbitina) the most obvious of these.
I am drawn to the dogwoods as they continue to support a wide range of insects. Latest addition here is the Common Black Pot Beetle (Cryptocephalus labiatus).
On the flower front I noted the first appearance of Bladder Campion (Silene vulgaris).
