Insects added today are the Marbled White Spot moth (Protodeltote pygarga), a hoverfly, the Sun Fly (Helophilus pendulus), the Patchwork Leafcutter Bee (Megachile centuncularis), the Common Tachinid fly (Tachina fera) and the sawfly Broad-striped Rhogogaster (Rhogogaster scalaris).

A good morning for slugs too. However, if I thought insect ID was difficult then slug ID I can forget about. It is probably safe to say that this one belongs to an aggregate of largely similar species known as the Black Slug (Arion ater agg.).

Judging by the 1st instar nymphs that have hatched from the eggs on the Common Comfrey they would appear to be those of the Hairy Shieldbug (Dolycoris baccarum).

Newly opening flowers are Dropwort (Filipendula vulgaris), Bittersweet (Solanum dulcamara), Honeysuckle (Lonicera periclymenum), Pineappleweed/Wild Chamomile (Matricaria discoidea) and Druce’s Crane’s-bill (Geranium endressii x versicolor) this last one most probably a garden escapee.
