Dingy Skipper (Erynnis tages), Green Hairstreak (Callophrys rubi), which I finally managed to photograph, and Common Blue (Polyommatus icarus) were particularly noticeable today, but the latest to appear and also in good numbers is Small Blue (Cupid0 minimus). Another two insects added to my Downs list are the Black-striped Cranefly (Tipula vernalis) and a click beetle (Aplotarsus incanus). There was also an infestation of the Oxeye Daisy (Leucanthemum vulgare) in one area by a species of tiny thrips (a.k.a. corn flies) belonging to the tube-tailed thrips family Phlaeothripidae, possibly Haplothrips leucanthemi.
Newly flowering wildflowers today are Common Rock-rose (Helianthemum nummularium) and Wild Mignonette (Reseda luteola).
